Esports betting is ordinary sports betting on video-game matches: you back a team to win the match, a single map, or a handicap across a series. The twist is the format, because best-of-one, best-of-three and best-of-five matches price very differently, and live markets reopen between rounds. Map handicaps in a best-of-three
- Team A at -1.5 maps must sweep 2-0; scraping through 2-1 still loses.
- A +1.5 maps bet on Team B pays as long as Team B takes at least one map, even in defeat.
- Over 2.5 maps cashes as soon as a third map is played, whichever side then takes it.
- Curator’s pairing: if you like the favourite but the match price is too short, -1.5 maps pays more; if you like the underdog to fight, +1.5 is the safer shape.

Curator’s rule of thumb: back favourites in long series and look at underdog handicaps in short ones.

Live esports bets: problem and fix
Problem: your live bet is refused just as a teamfight starts. Fix: markets suspend during decisive moments; place bets between rounds or maps, not mid-fight.
Problem: the stream you watch runs behind the live price. Fix: streams lag; treat the book’s price as current and your screen as late.
Problem: three favourites look certain, so they go on one slip. Fix: upsets are common in short series, and each leg adds margin, as the esports parlay maths shows.
