Hit frequency counts the spins that hand back any money, whether the amount beats the stake or falls short of it. A 30% hit rate means roughly 30 paying spins in every 100. It sounds generous, and it often is not: a hit only measures that something came back, never whether it covered the bet.
Hit frequency in a worked ₱10 session
Use round, made-up numbers to see the trap.
| Line | Figure |
|---|---|
| Spins | 100 at ₱10 |
| Staked | ₱1,000 |
| Hits at 30% | 30 spins |
| Average hit (example) | ₱25 |
| Returned | ₱750 |
| Result | down ₱250 |
Thirty win animations, and the balance is a quarter lighter. For this session to break even, the 30 hits would need to average about ₱33 each. Many of them, in practice, pay ₱2, ₱4 or ₱6 on a ₱10 stake: wins on screen, losses in the wallet.
Where a published hit rate comes from
A hit rate is a studio’s figure, worked out over a very large sample of spins, like RTP. On Betsoft’s Gemini Joker page, a 14.97% hit rate sits next to a 95.61% RTP. Many studio pages print RTP and volatility but no hit rate at all.
When no figure is published, a short session of your own will not produce a reliable one. Fifty spins can show 10 hits or 25 on the same game, which says more about chance than about the design.
How hit frequency pairs with volatility
Think of the two as a matched set:
- High hit rate, low volatility. Frequent small returns, balance drifts slowly. Super Ace and Crazy777, both rated low to medium by JILI, sit near this end.
- Middle of the road. Medium games such as Fortune Ox or Lucky Neko mix steady small wins with the odd feature round.
- Low hit rate, high volatility. Long dry stretches, then larger lumps. Gates of Olympus 1000, rated very high, sits here.
If you liked a frequent-hit game and found a high-volatility one frustrating, that is the pairing at work, not bad luck. The volatility shelf by budget sorts the catalogue by that label.
Using it when you shortlist games
Hit frequency is most useful as a tie-breaker between games you already like. Two titles with similar RTPs and the same volatility label can still differ in how often they pay, and that difference decides how a ₱300 session feels.
- Short session, small budget: lean toward games that hit often, so the balance lasts long enough to see a feature.
- Long session, patient budget: a lower hit rate is fine if you can carry 80 quiet spins without raising the stake.
- Reward wagering: frequent small hits keep a balance alive while a turnover count climbs, which is why steady JILI titles suit small rewards.
Three ways players misread it
- Counting wins instead of pesos. Tally net results, not celebrations.
- Mixing it up with RTP. RTP is how much comes back in total; hit frequency is how often something comes back. A plain reading of a 96.5% RTP shows the difference.
- Assuming more ways means more profit. Wide ways grids tend to hit often for small amounts; the payline and ways comparison explains why.

How to Get Started
-
Look for a published hit rate
Check the studio's game page or the paytable for a hit rate or hit frequency figure; few studios print one, so note it when you find it.
-
Watch for wins below the stake
For 50 spins, mark which hits paid less than you bet. That tally shows how many hits were really small losses.
-
Read it beside volatility
Pair the hit rate with the volatility label. A high rate with low volatility means a steady trickle; a low rate with high volatility means long dry runs.
